I seriously LOVE the 24th of July and there is probably only a few reasons why. Sadly it isn't really because the pioneers first settled Utah, or the parade and fireworks. Even though I do enjoy watch both. The 24th of July is my favorite because of the tradition that my parents have started. I love this holiday because of our annual dutch oven pot-luck festivities. Seriously everyone that I have told about our tradition is overly jealous. They should be because this is awesome!
Our weekend started on Wednesday after I had pulled 14.5 hrs at work and had to hurry home at 6 am so I could finish packing and get ready for a job interview that I had in Mapleton at another troubled youth school at 10 am. I was so exhausted trying to get up there. I'm amazed that I actually made it and had a good interview. After that I think we drove around Provo/Orem for a little bit but some stores were still closed so I remember Skyeler stopping off at UVU for a min and then we were on the Freeway and I don't remember anything till we were at the exit in Bountiful. So Wednesday was a day of catching up on sleep that we all needed. Thursday I had a girls day with my two best friends Mina and Katrina. It was so good to be able to hang out with friends after not having a social life in a long time. Later that night we had promised Ammon (Sky's youngest brother) that we would take him to see Harry Potter 7 part 2. So we went and I had already seen it with work and I was making Skyeler wait so I could watch it with him for the first time.
On Friday another friend of mine had invited me to go to baptisms at the Salt Lake temple. I had only done baptisms at the Bountiful temple and that had been at least 4 years ago. So I was actually nervous when it was almost my turn. LOL silly me. Later that day we had walked around Salt Lake a little and had lunch and visited some church museums, we then had the parade and fireworks and that is when we had met up with Ryan and Alex.
Saturday we had the dutch oven cook-off and I think we had about 15 dutch ovens. It was so much fun and so much amazing food. Skyeler made a chili and it was delicious. He is such an amazing cook. Dad and Kandie also made homemade ice cream for dessert and this year the flavors were SOOO good. We had a peach pineapple and a Strawberry chocolate chip.
Sunday we had made it to part of church and after for dinner we had made some more dutch oven food and ice cream and then we had to leave for home. It was quite depressing but it was an amazing weekend for family fun. I'm so glad and blessed to have the family I do. But I just have to remind myself Disneyland is only a week and a half away. That means VACATION with the family!!!!!
So excited!!!! It was a great weekend!!
